The Independence Square, which refers to the Spanish War of Independence, is one of the best known and frequented places of Girona. Located in the neighborhood of Mercadal in the city center, it's a large square bounded by neoclassical buildings, colonnades with wonderful archways and numerous cafes / restaurants.
