Bristol Savages Sketch Night - There will always be an England

Bristol savages there will always be an england by tim wilmot t

Weekly sketch night at my art society (well we are all at home locations for a bit), the 'Bristol Savages', and the topic for the night was 'There will always be an England'. So we have normally 2 hours to produce a painting based on that topic without the use of any reference material (so no cheating looking up on the web). Owning to the current social distancing restrictions, this of course was a virtual meeting.

My painting is based on a view looking down Gloucester Road and some dramatic shadows.

Minehead Harbour at low tide

Minehead harbour low tide

Minehead, Somerset, 15" x 11"

Simple composition - go for 3 boats, all different sizes.  It's amazing how many colours you can sometimes find in the harbour floor.  Probably more than if it were the sea.  My reference photo was a dull December day.  I changed it to a sunny one!

Painted on Saunders Waterford, Cold Press, 300 gms
