Latest YouTube Video from Tim - Advanced Arizona Mountain Landscape!

Here's my latest step by step demo of painting Sedona!  Enjoy!

Here's a summary:

  • Tim conducts a live watercolor demo for his Patreon members, focusing on painting a Sedona, Arizona mountain landscape.
  • Emphasizes creating depth in the painting by adjusting the composition, including moving the horizon line and zooming in on certain features.
  • Discusses the importance of capturing the correct shades of red and using a mix of colors to achieve the right tones and textures for the rock formations and greenery.
  • Demonstrates techniques such as pre-wetting the sky, using various brushes for different effects, and layering colors to create shadows and highlights.
  • Advises viewers to consider light and dark areas, and to adapt their compositions while following along with the demo to enhance the overall visual impact of their paintings.

Frejus France

Frejus painting by Tim Wilmot

Thanks to Patreon member Judy Sadler for kind permission to use her photo (in our Source Photo section!) of Frejus in France for this video I will put together soon.

I find I am pre wetting my paper quite often, after drawing and before doing the first wash.  this one was done in this way.  Paper stayed damp for quite some time (in my cold studio!)

Some effects that are difficult to achieve with other mediums - the mixing of different thicknesses of paint for the sky, and letting them mix a little at the edges and the glow you could get as in the centre here by leaving the paper unpainted and first laying down clear water around that bright area, or in it, then painting carefully up to the area to get a soft edge.
