New video coming soon....Cadaques in Spain. Bit of everything...building, water, beach and boats....
Thanks to Patreon member Judy Sadler for kind permission to use her photo (in our Source Photo section!) of Frejus in France for this video I will put together soon.
I find I am pre wetting my paper quite often, after drawing and before doing the first wash. this one was done in this way. Paper stayed damp for quite some time (in my cold studio!)
A street scene - Castle Street in Clitheroe and the subject of a full length step by step demo up on my YouTube Channel.
This painting is for sale. Please contact me for details..
Some effects that are difficult to achieve with other mediums - the mixing of different thicknesses of paint for the sky, and letting them mix a little at the edges and the glow you could get as in the centre here by leaving the paper unpainted and first laying down clear water around that bright area, or in it, then painting carefully up to the area to get a soft edge.
The subject of a recent video up on my YouTube Channel, and the 'round' apartment building as I call it in the popular town of Mijas in southern Spain. Very popular with the tourists, this is the 'edge' of the main tourist area with its network of narrow roads. The levels of the building were quite tricky as they are not symmetrical - quite quirky!
Watercolor 15" x 11" on Saunders Waterford paper.

My latest demo - boats in a harbor setting in the New Venice area of Livorno in Italy. An area of wide canals, rather like Venice, winding through the historic part of the city.
My latest YouTube video is based on a photo very kindly sent me by one of my Patreon Members. Thanks Sandy! This is Monhegan Island, Maine USA. A couple of lovely timber buildings, small boats and some dramatic shadows. Going for some dark shadows here to contrast with the boats
Here's my latest video and demo of a scene in Castillon in South West France. I focus on what I feel are good reasons to include people in a street scene painting. Hope you agree with me on my reasons!
