This is one of my recent watercolour paintings, capturing the charm of figures in a sunny street scene. The setting is vibrant and warm, with the golden hues of the building bathed in sunlight, creating a striking contrast against the cooler shadows. I wanted to convey the play of light and shadow as it dances across the street and buildings, bringing life to the scene.
The figures are central to the composition, walking casually and interacting with their surroundings. Their silhouettes are loosely defined, allowing the viewer to focus on their movement and energy rather than intricate details. I used quick brushstrokes and a limited palette to suggest their forms, keeping the mood relaxed and spontaneous.
The architecture in the background is rendered with soft washes and minimal detail, emphasising texture and atmosphere rather than precision. The balconies and windows are hinted at with bold lines, adding structure without overpowering the scene. On the right-hand side, I included a doorway and signage to anchor the composition, balancing the open space of the street.
I aimed to capture the essence of a sunny day—bright light spilling onto the pavement, shadows stretching long across the ground, and people going about their day in a timeless urban setting. The painting reflects my love for simplicity and storytelling in watercolour.
