Essaouira Morocco

Essaouira Morocco

Essaouira Morocco, 15" x 11"

JL thanks for the reference photo of Essaouira on the coast of Morocco.  I found a quick way of painting in a flock of seagulls (if that is the correct word).  The sky was painted in with some random gaps.  These gaps were then made into the impression of a seagull with the addition of wings and body.  Very handy when the seagulls are a mixture of white and greys!

Metal Worker Marrakech

Watercolour of Marrakech, 15" x 11".

A little while back I was watching a cable TV channel and a travel program about Marrakech.  I put my telly on pause when there was a shot of a workshop and this guy working hard at his trade fashioning some metal into something useful I'm sure.  Anyway, I was struck by the lovely colours of the walls and their many tones.  A slight departure from my normal landscape pictures.

Entrance to the Souk El Had, Agadir, Morocco

The Eastern entrance to the main municipal market in Agadir, the Souk El or Al Had - a very large covered market selling everything from spices , veg, clothing to electrical goods.  If you're an animal lover, don't go near the livestock area of the market - you'll come across loads of live chickens ready for sale.  If you go to the Souk by Taxi, don't ask for the Market as they'll most likely take you to the local carpet and craft store for a hard sell.  But the Souk's a great place to wander and do some haggling.
