Landscape Watercolour of Bath, 15" x 11".
The rear of Jollys Department Store form Queens Square in Bath. The trees in Queen Square are casting shadows over the light honey coloured buildings of Bath in this well-known square. Tricky bit in this painting was the timing of the dappled shadows on the buildings and road. The base wash was whetted and then allowed to go damp, then in with a darker pigment of the shadows, so a sort of wet in wet.

Thanks for sharing your technique regarding shadows Tim, it's very generous of you to do that. I'm always amazed by your execution of them and here they are marvelous. You are a master of tone and this is a superb painting. Are you still using the Fabriano?

Thanks again Kev as always for your kind comments. I am using most Saunders Waterford Rough 300 gms now. It's cotton based and paint takes a longer time to dry, so that wet in wet is a bit easier rather than on paper which either dries too quickly or dries inconsistently.
All the best!
