A painting completed in my local Art Society evening and a scene local to me. Sharing the picture with my fellow artists and locals, they would quickly point out what the buildings in the scene were thirty, forty years ago. Sadly yesterday's high street of local shops, butchers etc. are now replaced by charity shops and coffee houses.

Tinajo, a picturesque small town in central Lanzarote and an area with a long straight road running through it. Probably a good practice in perspective, but I quite like myself the rendering of the car in the shadows on the left and a little bit of reflection on the roof.

Fatih district in Istanbul, away from the typical tourist routes. The Fatih area is home to the main mosques and the Grand Covered Bazaar. My subject was a typical scene of a street in Fatih looking down towards the Bosphorous. I was probably most pleased about the job on the car of all things and left it not too overworked. The danger is you start painting in detail on windscreens and then wheels and it all ends up looking too false.

The old market town of Chipping Sodbury and the town hall at it's centre is a popular venue for weddings, exhibitions, music festivals and private parties. It's a lovely old building dating back to 1452, and over the centuries has also been used as a school and for council meetings. It's Victorian Gothic facade was added in the mid 19th century.

The Via Dolorosa (Path of Sorrow or "Way of the Cross") in Jerusalem is the route tradition says that Jesus followed from his condemnation by the Romans to the spot where he was buried after the crucifixion. Now you’ll find the street can be noisy – with venders vying for your attention calling out their wares. Old stone buildings rise up on either side, and instead of a tree-lined country lane, seemingly endless stone steps ascend through the city.

Not too far away from where I live and one of the oldest Fish and Chip shops in the Bristol area, serving the greatest British take away dish. I had to make up the couple sat on the wall of the car park of course tucking into their meal served on paper. It gets busy here on a Friday!

Roses on the Costa Brava, Spain. Once a sleepy fishing village back in the fifties is now a busy resort whose population rises by 100,000 in the summer months, many of whom are French owing to the proximity of the French border just to the North. It's a nice town with a good ambiance and a lot of choice as regards restaurants and shopping.

Looking up Carrer del Far, in San Antonio, Ibiza. San Antonio is located in the west part of the island and has the largest natural harbour on the island (which is just on the left of painting) and the main tourist center. This is near the popular 'West End' area of San Antonio where all the night clubs are. Palm trees are quite easy to paint - dark pigment on the brush and loads of dry brush strokes from the centre outwards and trying not to be too symmetrical.

Santa Eulalia, Ibiza's third largest resort is a much quieter, more refined location to it's larger neighbour Ibiza Town, just to the south. It has a more relaxed feel about the place with a large brit contingent. The Passeig de Salamera, a popular tree-lined avenue surrounded by cosmopolitan open air cafes and food shops, is always busy in summer months, with numerous stalls selling crafts, jewellery and ethnic clothes.
