Dartmouth, England, 15" x 11".
The 'inner harbour' at Dartmouth at low tide. Probably the trickiest stage was the sea wash - getting it deeper in tone towards the foreground and at the same time having to paint around those small boats. The background buildings have lots of architectural details and decorative timber work, so they were simplified as were the background boats in the shadows. While the background buildings were still damp, a bit of clear water was dropped in to add a bit of interest.

Very nice. Every part of this composition is a composition on its own, which is not easy with many different objects.
Was wondering, I checked your 'older' work, from some years ago, and I think I can say it was good from the start, but your work has definitely got better, imho.
Could you say something about your own development over the years, since you started with your daily watercolours? What has changed, how important is technique, what is still the same etc. etc. ?
Thanks,
Peter

Thank you very much Peter and your comments on older work vs newer work.
I think you have suggested a very good future post! Maybe I should take a subject I did 5 years ago and paint the same scene!
Thanks again!
