The narrow streets of Alexandria with their tall surrounding buildings lend themselves to a 'portrait' orientation to get the sense of scale and the verticals.  I have tried to emphasize it here with the light streaming down the centre and the vertical lines of buildings in the distance.  The verticals are nicely broken up by the many power cables crossing the street and the odd lamp dangling in mid air.
