The walk from the 'new' part of Puerto del Carmen, to the 'Old Town', past single and double storey white washed houses, and gradually the older architecture appears. If I ran a business in Lanzarote, I would be selling white paint!

A walk around the 'Puddle' in Arrecife, Lanzarote. This large tidal lake, just behind the coastal strip is safe mooring for many local small boats and a lovely mixture of a few cafes and restaurants. And all within easy reach of the main shopping area.

A stroll around the older parts of Arrecife, Lanzarote, and you stumble across quiet little squares. The only activity to be seen are the odd pedestrians using it as a short cut to go somewhere else and stray cats on the prowl.

Walking down into the harbour in Old Town Puerto del Carmen, you come across a charming little area of restaurants and Tapas bars. All very nice, but the best is La Lonja. That's the white building on the right. The food is always freshly prepared (you can see right into the Kitchen) and it's even got a fishmongers on the premises!

A nice afternoon walk into the sun, along the promenade Arrecife. Arrecife is the main town on the island and the promenade runs the whole length of the seafront from the El Charco lake in the north, to the resorts further south. Arrecife has a small Castle, which you can view from the promenade, San Gabriel Castle, constructed originally in 1573 and made from wood which lasted until 1586 when it suffered an attack from the sea and was destroyed by fire. It is reached by a small bridge from the seafront called Puente de las Bolas (Bridge of the Balls). It was so named as it has two columns to hold the drawbridge that have round balls on the top.

Puerto Calero just south of Puerto del Carmen, is a little jewel along the west coast of Lanzarote. It's like a miniature Puerto Banus with it's posh marina (with polished brass mooring posts), wide promenade, upmarket shops, and restaurants to suit all tastes. My favourite, the little British Bar in the middle, Sheppard's pie and a pint.

A little walk through the narrow streets of Arrecife from the sea front, passed Tappas Bars, and outdoor restaurants, up to the square of the Iglesia de San Gines Arrecife.

Tias, a major town in the middle of Lanzarote overlooking the resort of Puerto del Carmen. It's a quiet place unlike it's coastal neighbour, but has loads of streets to explore and popular Tapas Bars and Restaurants in the centre.

Exploring the quieter back streets of Puerto del Carmen, a bit of peace between the noisier main roads. Ominous clouds could herald a downpour at any moment.
