A nice little walk along the headland overlooking the old town with restaurants to your right and the sea to your left, then the harbour appears in front of you.

The orderly rows of striking orange parasols covering the beach at Puerto del Carmen. I could not quite understand how the beach wasn't black in colour owing to the volcanic nature of the island. Imported maybe?  Anyway it's a lovely walk and everywhere is so clean.

Fowey Street

This narrow back street of Fowey (pronounced 'Foy' as I later found out!) runs parallel to the estuary and was so narrow in places I can believe it must be a logistical nightmare getting deliveries into the local shops.  Walking along, now and then you'd get little glances of the sea between gaps in the houses.  Anyway you couldn't get more Cornish a scene than here, and it was wonderful off season and the sun putting in a rare appearance.  I relieved the local bakery of their last Cornish pasty of the day.

The many restaurants along the headland above the harbour have a superb view over the black volcanic cliffs of the Old Town Puerto del Carmen.  While you're sipping your Sangria, look down on the terraced gardens filled with barrel cactus plants and the waves crashing on the rocks.  Great way to spend an hour or two.

Tavira Railway Station, Algarve, Portugal

Tavira is a lovely little town, just along the Algarve coast from Faro.  There's no 'health & safety' at the railway station.  To get to the other platform, just look both ways and cross the single track rail.

Faro, one of the main cities on the South coast of Portugal is often overlooked by the tourists who head for the main resorts of Albufeira and elsewhere on the Algarve.  Faro still retains it's old world charm with colonial architecture, white washed walls, and quiet back streets to explore.

Puerto Banus, Marbella Spain

In the late afternoon sun, a quiet corner of the marina at Puerto Banus, watering hole for the rich (not me!).  I based my picture on a photo I took from the top deck of the ferry back to Marbella.  Some of the super yachts in the harbour are like small cruise ships!

This is the view walking down from the old citadel towards Piazza Yenne, a busy little square in the heart of Cagliari.  Many little narrow streets lead off the square with everything from high end fashion outlets to restaurants and pizza takeaways.

O'Connell Bridge Dublin

O'Connell Bridge at the bottom of O'Connell Street in Dublin is the widest bridge (it's as wide as it's long) over the River Liffey and surely the busiest bridge of all, with traffic coming from all directions.

The River Liffey runs through the middle of Dublin on its way to the Irish Sea.  Not a massive river but 60% of it's flow is diverted for drinking water or to supply industry.  Many famous areas of Dublin are not too far from it's path, including the Temple Bar area.  'Hic'.
