A recent demo to the Bromley Art Society and a river/ford scene in the village of Eynsford.

Uphill Marina, near Weston-Supper-Mare.  Low tide on the River Axe.

Last nights demo to Ashtead Art Group.  Brief was to paint some barges in a river scene.  Unfortunately I had no suitable images, so the group, after a vote/poll I set up, decided on this scene from Watermouth Harbour in North Devon.  No barges, but some simple boat shapes, low tide and an exercise in values and composition.

Blakeney, Norfolk, Watercolour, 15" x 11"

A very pretty part of the UK, Blakeney on the Norfolk coast and in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  I think it's important to get a graded wash for the water - light in the distance and then coming darker towards the foreground.  The challenging bit was the bottom right corner.  A large boat was there in the corner in the source photo, which I omitted for the painting, so I kept it fairly simple there.

The River Windrush on a frosty morning.  An exercise in values.  Light of course in the background and trees get darker in value to the foreground.

Watermouth Bay, Devon UK,  Watercolour, 15" x 11"

The small boatyard at Watermouth Bay in North Devon.   Not a large boatyard, but in a very pretty location which I have painted a few times (especially the lifeboat at low tide).  The boatyard runs up to the left.  In front the ground slopes down to the sea, way over to the right.  I tried to make a feature of the rocky foreground here and a small stream running under the pathway.

Watercolor 15" x 11"

A bit of an imaginary one this.  Just taking the outline of some buildings and loosely basing the composition on a view towards Kingswear on the other side of the river Dart from Dartsmouth.  I'm going for a fairly calm scene here and a touch of bright light ober in the distance to the right.

Watercolor 15" x 11"

The bridge over the river that gave its name to the region of Dordogne in South West France.  My source photo had no bridge reflections to talk of.  Photos can be quite boring and uninteresting.  So I made more of a feature of the reflections, lifted the horizon a bit and introduced a small rowing boat as a focal point
