A third painting of this lovely location on the River Axe.  I must get down there when the tide is in.  I think I got the values better on this one with the distant hills and stronger values in the foreground.  Might have been nice to add in a few more posts to help the composition.

Sherston, UK, Watercolour, 15" x 11"

A third painting from my summer day trip to local village Sherston.  Love the bunting out in the street and a great tool to link two sides of the street from a composition point of view.  I normally avoid painting cars side on, but here I think it works by not making a big feature of them with all the trimmings and wheel arches and so on.

Sherston, UK, Watercolour, 15" x 11"

First plein air of the day at Sherston with the 'Exiles'.  This is looking down Church Street.  Picked this spot primarily because it was in the shade.  I think with watercolour plein air, a key consideration on where/what to paint is 1) get comfortable, then 2) decide from there what to paint..

Uphill, Somerset, Watercolour 15" x 11"

A painting based on a photo taken on a summer plein air trip to Uphill near Weston-Super-Mare.  It's the River Axe as it meanders into the Bristol Channel and there's quite a few boats which at low tide look as if they have suffered from some flooding catastrophe and have been pushed inland from their moorings.  Lovely muddy banks of the river and quite a reddy brown in colour.

3rd painting in the afternoon, still sheltering from the strong winds behind the Scout Hut on the Waterfront in Bristol.  Here a view across some wasteland and the spire of St Mary Redcliffe.

Bristol Harbourside, Watercolour, 15" x 11"

Second painting on a recent plein air trip with my painting group, the Exiles.  The sun came out late morning, but the wind was still too strong out in exposed places. So I tucked in behind the Mud Dock Cafe building and just painted what was in front of me - the quayside, tops of boats and some apartments on the other side of the harbour as a backdrop.

Bristol Waterfront, Watercolour, 15" x 11"

Out with my painting friends 'the Exiles' recently and a trip to nearby Bristol and its Waterfront/Harbourside area.  A very breezy day - Most of us had our easels blown over at some stage, and on this one, I was painting into the wind and had to lean forwards against my easel to hold it in place.  So here is a view towards Prince Street Bridge, the cranes beyond that and some small boats in the foreground.

Biddestone, UK, 15" x 11"

Trying to prove to myself that you can do a number of paintings from the same spot, but just look in a different direction.  Useful exercise and here what captured me was really just the table with its slats all leading into the composition.  Also with the sun having moved around after lunch, a great chance to do some contra jour ans and have a figure coming towards me.

Biddestone, Wiltshire, 15" x 11"

Just a slightly different angle from #1 plein air, and a view right down the front of the White Horse pub and the row of pretty cottages on this side of the village centre.  I raised the pub sign just a little to suit the composition.  Can't remember if there really was a 'Real Ale' sign there, but they served real ales in the pub anyway!  Last painting before lunch on the day with the 'Exiles' Plein Air painting group.
