I was the painting Tutor recently at the Watermill in Posara, Tuscany, Italy. I did a couple of demos each day, so here's the first one, painted right outside the mill and looking up towards the hills to the North of Posara, the small hamlet where we were based for the week. Unusually on this one, I painted the sky and background hills last! Normally they're the first to go in, but this one I started painting the tops of the roofs first, down to the foreground. I think it worked. I wanted the soft edge of the sky against the hills and a hard edge of hills against rooftops.
Painted on Saunders Waterford, Cold Press, 300 gms.
