Bath, UK, 15" x 11"
Green Street Bath and a narrow street, very typical in this area and a view up to the spire of St Michael's Church. Quite a loose approach to the buildings on each side of the street. Had to be careful to leave out the whites of the windows on the right, and adding that little triangle of dark just makes it into a window with some bright light hitting it.

Bergerac, France, 15" x 11"
I love these timber framed or half-timbered buildings, in the old part of Bergerac SW France. I find the most effective way to paint the timbers is by single dry brush strokes. On rough paper you get an effect of old timbers. Painted on Saunders Waterford, Cold Press, 300 gms.
Chania, Crete, 15" x 11"
There were 2 main challenges with this scene - 1) getting the soft edges around the trees and soft shadows, and 2) the handling of the row of boats on the left, moored up against the harbour - all sorts of craft. So 1) was all about timing and sequence - tree first, then background buildings, then the dark areas of the tree. 2) was handled almost as an abstract, just observing the shapes, and not thinking 'boats'.

St Foy la Grande, France, 15" x 11"
A quick plein air at the Cafe du Casino. No, not a casino. Just a very friendly cafe in St Foy, SW France. Here I am framing the scene top and bottom with some dark values, andin the foreground a couple of figures blend in with that. Then just a quick rendition of the street beyond and a few cars.

Here's my latest video up on my YouTube Channel and this time covering different techniques to create texture of objects - a shiny surface, pebbles on a beach and so on. Hope you like it and send me your comments please!
Dordogne, France, 15" x 11"
Another painting based on a dashcam image of mine. Do you have a dashcam? Many people use them now and it's surprising how many images you may have lurking on your device which might make decent subjects for a painting. So here's mine, a quiet country road in SW France, could be anywhere. But a play on light and shade and an accidental figure coming towards us.

Lido, Venice, 15" x 11"
Cedars are one of my favourite trees (wish I had a Cedar of Lebanon) so I could not resist this attempt at the top of a blue cedar just popping over the roof tops at the Lido, Venice. I suppose an ordinary street scene, but jazz it up with some light and shade and a couple of street signs, row of park cars. Probably I prefer doing this sort of scene than the run of the mill gondolas and canals.

Dartmouth, Devon, 15" x 11"
A demo painting from quite a while ago. The Inner Harbour at Dartmouth in Devon, UK. An exercise in laying down a wash (the water), some careful painting around the foreground boats, composition with the placing of the boats, values (as in the dark of the reflections around the lighter value of the tops of the boats and a nit of looseness (the far boats in the shadow of the buildings).
