Plein air watercolour demonstration - Malmesbury #2 - Rain stopped play
Jun 21, 2018
Just to show what it's like painting outdoors in the UK in summer, here's my second effort in a town local to me, Malmesbury. So a quieter spot this one and meant to be a study of the end of the church, some tomb stones and a tree casting shadow. But as the painting progressed, a fine misty rain came down and spoiled the show...
Painted on Saunders Waterford, cold press 300 gms paper - not waterproof paper but damned good!
Hi Tim, lovely painting as usual! A couple of questions - you have painted the buildings a mid brown colour but in the video the buildings look grey? Is this due to the real colours not displaying correctly on my screen? And when you paint the greenery around the graves, you change from your big wash brush to a short scrubby brush - what's the reason for this? John

I might have been working a little quickly. I was more interested in tones in the picture and went for a warm feel. The scrubby brush can give more texture to foliage
