Capri Harbour looking towards the Ferry Station

Capri_port_looking_towards_ferry_station

Landscape Watercolour Painting of Capri, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

The charming seaside Port of Marina Grande, encompassed by two narrow arms or quays, borders the picturesque town of Capri.  The port sees many types of watercraft from the old fishing boats to ferries coming over from Naples and Sorrento (bringing over thousands of day trippers each day in the summer), and of course up market yachts.  A small square overlooks the port surrounded by the characteristic houses of Capri, close to the water and having great views over the bay from their open galleries.

Pisces Fish and Chip shop Yate near Bristol

Pisces_fish_and_chip_shop_yate

Landscape Watercolour of Yate nr Bristol, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

Not too far away from where I live and one of the oldest Fish and Chip shops in the Bristol area, serving the greatest British take away dish.  I had to make up the couple sat on the wall of the car park of course tucking into their meal served on paper.  It gets busy here on a Friday!

This painting is sold.

Pont de Pedra, Girona

Pont_de_pedra_girona

Landscape Watercolour of Girona, Spain, on Saunders Waterford Rough paper 140 lbs

The Pont de Pedra (translated as Bridge of Stone) over the Onyar River, just down from the Placa Catalunya in central Girona.

Constructed in 1850 of solid granite with 3 majestic arches and a main pedestrian walkway from one half of the city to the other. The bridges over the river Onyar are a nice way to walk from one side of Girona (Barri Vell) to the other (Eixample) and gives you great opportunities for views of the lovely colourful houses along the water's edge.

Autumn on Goose Green Yate

Autumn_goose_green_yate

Landscape Watercolour of Yate nr Bristol, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

Goose Green in the town of Yate and a welcome bit of small parkland in amongst the housing estates.  Goose Green (nothing to do with the Falklands) is so named because of the Goose Fairs they held here several hundred years ago when Yate was just a small village in the Cotswolds.  Interesting challenge with this painting was getting the feeling of sunlight coming in from the right and getting the perspective correct on the shadows from the rows of trees.

Roses Costa Brava, Spain

Roses_costa_brava

Landscape Watercolour of Spain, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 Lbs

Roses on the Costa Brava, Spain.  Once a sleepy fishing village back in the fifties is now a busy resort whose population rises by 100,000 in the summer months, many of whom are French owing to the proximity of the French border just to the North.  It's a nice town with a good ambiance and a lot of choice as regards restaurants and shopping.

Bristol Bridge, Welsh Back, Bristol

Bristol_bridge_welsh_back

Landscape Watercolour of Bristol, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

Bristol Bridge is an old bridge in central Bristol UK, on the 'floating harbour' of the city. This is a popular area now for upmarket riverside restaurants where diners can watch the swans or the numerous passing ferries. The buildings opposite were once drab post war offices which were bulldozed about 25 years ago and smarter offices and apartments taking their place.

San Antonio, Ibiza, 3

San_antonio_ibiza_3

Landscape Watercolour of Ibiza, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

Looking up Carrer del Far, in San Antonio, Ibiza.  San Antonio is located in the west part of the island and has the largest natural harbour on the island (which is just on the left of painting) and the main tourist center.  This is near the popular 'West End' area of San Antonio where all the night clubs are.  Palm trees are quite easy to paint - dark pigment on the brush and loads of dry brush strokes from the centre outwards and trying not to be too symmetrical.

Passeig de Salamera, Santa Eularia, Ibiza

Passeig_de_Salamera_Santa_Eularia

Landscape Watercolour of Ibiza, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

Santa Eulalia, Ibiza's third largest resort is a much quieter, more refined location to it's larger neighbour Ibiza Town, just to the south. It has a more relaxed feel about the place with a large brit contingent. The Passeig de Salamera, a popular tree-lined avenue surrounded by cosmopolitan open air cafes and food shops, is always busy in summer months, with numerous stalls selling crafts, jewellery and ethnic clothes.

Santa Maria del Giglio, Venice

Santa_Maria_del_Giglio_venice

Landscape Watercolour of Venice, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

The very ornate front of Santa Maria del Giglio, and inside housing many works of art including the only painting by Rubens in Venice.

The richly decorated baroque fa├žade would be a nightmare to replicate in a painting (especially when you are short of time), so all we can do as a watercolouist is simplify the scene and suggest pillars and statues with darker brush strokes - a bit of dry brush works wonders.

Britannia Inn Weston Super Mare

Britannia_inn_Weston

Landscape Watercolour of Weston Super Mare, 15" x 11" on Bockingford NOT Paper 140 lbs

The Britannia Inn otherwise known as "The Brit" is a traditional English Pub situated on the High Street in Weston Super Mare in the South West of the UK.  When we're lucky enough to have a sunny summer's day, it's a great place for a pint in the courtyard and watch the world go by.
