Tavira Algarve 3

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

A side street off Rua da Liberdade, in central Tavira in the Algarve.   Rua da Liberdade is the main commercial street in Tavira, full of shops & cafes housed in old buildings, ending in a large modern square.

Tavira 2 Algarve

Tavira's a very attractive town on the Algarve. A gentle walk down from the railway station to the town centre leads you past many fine views of churches and chapels.  When you get to the town centre, a Roman bridge links the two parts of the town across the tidal River Gil√£o.

Olhao Railway Station, Algrave

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Olhao lies on the coast fairly close to Faro and at the end of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. Architecturally the town is well known for an older quarter where the flat terraced roofs and straight box-shaped chimneys show a definite Moorish flavour in their style. Another attraction to the visitor is the fish market held every day in a long building on the waterfront (Olhao is the largest fishing centre on the Algarve). Each morning there is a lively atmosphere and the impressively large variety of fish offered by the local catch is displayed to tempt the customers.

Faro Railway Station

Faro_railway_station

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Faro railway station, well located in the middle of Faro and right next door to the bus station (well only about 200 yards away).  The main railway building is typical period style architecture and has not given way to the demands of the modern railway traveller. You can catch regular trains here going east and west (nice little trip to Tavira) along the coast, as well as up to Lisbon.

Guilvinec street, Brittany 2

Guilvinec

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Guilvinec is a major port on the tip of Brittany. Flanked on one side by the busy port and the other by it's beaches. In the town there's a wide variety of small traditional shops and cafes, and Sunday and Tuesday there's a market selling local produce.

Le Sainte Marine 2, Brittany

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Le Sainte Marine, back streets just behind the seafront.  This was looking away from the village centre, and the estuary is just over on the left hand side, down a little hill.  It's a quiet place and I thought just like Cornwall with loads of empty second homes.

Le Cafe du Port Sainte Marine, brittany

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Le Cafe du Port in Sainte Marine at the mouth of the river Odet in Brittany.  Lovely place to hang out and watch the boating action up and down the river.  Great menu as well with it's Fruits de mer.  There's a regular ferry here over to Benodet.

Le Sainte Marine, Brittany

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Le Sainte Marine, Brittany.  Even prettier than it's larger neighbour, Benodet, on the other side of the river Odet.  Quaint little cafes overlooking calm bays.  And a popular spot for sheltered moorings.

Walk along the estuary at Benodet, Brittany

Benodet_brittany

Original Watercolour 10" x 7"

Benodet, a lovely tourist town situated at the mouth of the river Odet.  Late afternoon walk into the town with the busy estuary on the left.  The whole landscape in this area reminds one of the southern coast of Devon or Cornwall.  And another nice thing about the town - parking is free!  UK take note.

Costa Calero Lanzarote 2

Costa_Calero_Lanzarote_2

Original Watercolour 15" x 11"

A gentle hill down the road into Puerto Calero Lanzarote.  Lanzarote's answer to Puerto Banus on mainland Spain, is a nice mixture of friendly bars and upmarket restaurants and shops. Make sure you wear your designer gear!
